Divergent Solutions

About

Pim van den Boomen

Every morning a briefing is ready: the regime per sector, the state of my positions and what I may no longer ignore. The calculation is fixed in rules and is the same every day. The decision stays with me.

On this site you see that method and the allocation of my own portfolio, always with a reference date. You get no advice here, and I manage no money for others.

Background

Since February 2020

In February 2020 I started investing in precious metals and commodities. I bought what looked cheap on the long-term chart and did not know when to sell. The lessons came through mistakes that cost money, and I wrote them down nowhere.

In 2025 I turned that method into rules that run the same calculation every morning. Divergent Solutions is that sole proprietorship: own capital, own risk. The system informs. It does not trade and it does not decide.

In steps

  1. Feb 2020

First positions in precious metals and commodities.

  2. 2020–2023

Fundamental analysis, many mistakes, all of it in my head.

  3. 2024

Memecoins showed that knowledge without a system is not enough.

  4. 2025

The method becomes a system that runs every morning.

Books that shaped my view

  • Geld komt uit het niets (Ad Broere)
  • Reminiscences of a Stock Operator (Edwin Lefèvre)
  • When Money Dies (Adam Fergusson)
  • De Big Reset (Willem Middelkoop)
  • The Fourth Turning (Strauss & Howe)
  • The Bitcoin Standard (Saifedean Ammous)
  • Extraordinary Popular Delusions (Charles Mackay)
  • The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind (Gustave Le Bon)

Questions

What this is, and what it is not

Is this investment advice or a service?
No. Divergent Solutions is a sole proprietorship that invests its own capital. There is no advice, no subscription and no asset management: no trading is done on anyone else's behalf. There is also no AFM licence and no investment services are provided; the legal page states this in full.
What is the result since February 2020?
That is not stated here. This site does not mention, promise or suggest returns. The method has also not yet been tested against what the market did afterwards; that test runs forward from now.
Which positions are in the portfolio?
The site names no companies, tickers, amounts or quantities per position. You see the allocation across sectors and subsectors, in percentages, on a single reference date.
Can I take part or receive signals?
No. Nothing is for sale and there are no signals to follow. What the system measures is on the site to explain the method, not as a prompt to do anything.
Is Divergent Journal the same as the Substack?
No, they are two separate sign-ups. The Journal is this site's newsletter, written in Dutch: you sign up on the homepage and your address goes on Divergent Solutions' own list. The analyses appear in English on Substack; there you sign up with Substack itself.

The story continues

Analyses, market view and the mistakes along the way. The Journal is open to everyone.
